Summer Reading Check-in

How are you doing with the books and packets? Please comment on this post and tell us 1) how far you have gotten so far - be honest! No points off for not being "far enough," I just want to know. Which book did you start with? And 2) how it's going for you - easy to read? hard? boring? fascinating? any questions about anything in the packets? So who's got an opinion about either book? Thoughts? Reactions? Things you like, don't like, relate to, don't relate to, find interesting or surprising, connections they bring to mind....EXTRA CREDIT FOR THE FIRST BRAVE POSTER!

  2. The Color of Water was hard to follow, considering the fact that it kept alternating from the writer's point of view to the mom's. It wasn't boring but rather fascinating in a mediocre kind of way...but maybe that was because I was stuck with it at home due to a sprained foot hahaha! The author could have done a better job alternating between narrators. I'm halfway through Huck Finn!

  5. Hey Ms. Leathers
It's Mubeenah, so far I finished the color of water, and I really enjoyed reading it. I actually liked the fact that the story was told by two characters. It was new and interesting.

  8. Hi Ms.Leathers,

I haven't started on the books yet. As I told you when I was going to drop out of AP, I have a Photography class at Academy of Art this summer, and I wanted to put all my focus into it. And though I stayed in AP, I still planned to put all my focus into AAU, I've never gotten a chance like that, better yet, a chance for FREE =D, before and I didn't want to mess it up, I hope you understand my reasons for not starting on the work. My last class was today, so I plan to start tomorrow after I get back from the gallery showing. I did try to start on Huck Finn while I was taking the class, but it was really hard to understand, but I'll try the reading aloud thing. I plan to start with Huck Finn anyways. Or I might try reading each at the same time.. I'll try my best to finish the books and packets before school starts, it should be easier now that I don't have to focus on other school. And I'll come back and post when I get somewhere in the books.

    post again soon,

    Chelsea

  12. Hey, Ms. Leathers.

I finished Huck Finn yesterday, and am on chapter 6 of the Color Of Water. Huck Finn was a bit hard to read, but I liked it a lot. There were points where I really wished I could have thrown Huck off the raft for some of the ways he was thinking, and times where I found myself rolling my eyes at Tom and his ridiculous plans.. I rolled my eyes at a book.. I loved the ending especially! I liked how Mark Twain connects things together from earlier in the book, and makes sense of them. As for the Color Of Water, it's really interesting. I like how it switches between the auther and his mom, and how it all connects. I also like how each narrators story is equally interesting because they both contribute to the book as a whole.

I know I'm a bit late on the books, but I'm pretty sure I'll be done with all of the work before school starts.
